Jan Marinus Wiersma

Jan Marinus Wiersma ( born August 26, 1951 in Groningen) is a Dutch politician of the Partij van de Arbeid.

Life

After leaving school in Groningen Wiersma studied history at the University of Groningen and graduated in 1978. Wiersma began to engage in politics and became a member of the Social Democratic Partij van de Arbeid. From 1978 to 1987 he served as a deputy in the Second Chamber of the States General. From 1994 to 2009 he was as a Member of the European Parliament. From July 20 2004 to July 13, 2009 Wiersma was vice president of the Party of European Socialists (PES ) Wiersma currently lives in Leiden, he published several articles in various journals on European policy issues.
