Jan Matzal Troska

JM Troska ( born August 3, 1881 in Valašské Klobouky, † September 3, 1961 in Prague) was Czech writer who devoted himself especially sci-fi novels for young people. Born as Jan Matzal he wrote under the pseudonym JM Troska and partly Jan Merfort, 1947, he had his name change on Jan Troska.

Life

Troska studied at the trade school in Brno and then worked in some machines, factories and steel mills, including in Pilsen and Mladá Boleslav. Because he uncovered various acts of sabotage of the workers, he was sent in 1917 to the front in Italy. 1921 - 1926 he lived in Yugoslavia and worked in a machine shop. After his return to Czechoslovakia he worked in Hradec Králové in the company Jezek for the manufacture of electrical equipment. Troska, who suffered from Meniere's disease, was retired in his 49th year.

In the 1930s and 1940s Troska wrote some sci-fi novels. Although he did not know the American literature, he has built many of his own ideas, he uses the concept of an interstellar Federation two years before Isaac Asimov in his Foundation cycle. He was also inspired by the novels of Jules Verne. Been active even in technical professions, he has physical laws pushed often idiosyncratic to the side.
