Life

Since 1980 Wolkers lived in Westermient on the island of Texel. His art objects were often the victims of vandalism. Examples of these are the Auschwitz monument in Amsterdam and the monument on the dike at Ceres on Texel. Probably played a role that Wolkers worked a lot with glass. In response to the destruction of the monument at Ceres in 2003 Wolkers announced that he would use less glass and steel instead more in the future. The Jac. P. Thijsse Monument in a pond in Den Burg Texel actually contains more steel, even if glass still take up much space in the artwork.

His best-known literary work in Germany are the novel Volver naar Oegstgeest, which was made into a film by Theo van Gogh, as well as the novels De Kus and Turks Fruit ( Turkish Delight dt ), the film adaptation nominated in 1973 by Paul Verhoeven for an Oscar in 1999 for Best Dutch movie of the century was excellent.
