Janan Sawa

Janan Sawa ( born 1956 in Dohuk, Iraq) is an Assyrian singer from Iraq.

He belongs to the Chaldean Catholic Church, an entity belonging to the Roman Catholic Church Eastern Church.

In 1972, at the age of 17 years, Janan Sawa began to sing. In the years 1974 to 1978, he spent four years in the Iraqi army.

1980 Janan fled from Iraq and settled for two years in Greece, but from where he moved after only two years in the U.S., where he still resides.

Career

In the U.S., he first began to work as a taxi driver. Over time, he began to sing in restaurants, where his career took its beginning. In 1985 he participated for the first time in a recording studio an album with the name " Nohadra " ( Syriac -Aramaic ܢ ܘ ܗ ܕ ܪ ܐ ), which is the Aramaic name for his home town of Dohuk on. This album sold under the Assyrians very well, so his fame grew more and more. On many Assyrian parties, especially at weddings his songs were played.

Private

Since 1975, Janan Sawa is married, but is now divorced. He is the father of two daughters, he has with his ex- wife.

His brother, Esam Sawa, is also a singer.
