Janikowo

Janikowo ( German Amsee ) is a town in Poland, in the Province Kujawy, powiat Inowrocławski.

Geography

Geographical location

Janikowo is located about 40 kilometers south of Bydgoszcz, and 45 km south-west of Toruń. The western border of the town is the Pakośćer See ( Jezioro Pakoskie ).

History

The first written mention of the village dates from the 15th century.

At the Second Partition of Poland, the place came under Prussian rule. Between 1872 and 1873 the railway line was built from Poznan to Bydgoszcz and set a stop named Amsee, 1875 a sugar factory was built. When after the turn of the century Janikowo an independent municipality was (before it belonged to Koluda Mała ) received it officially the German name Amsee.

After the First World War in 1918 Janikowo part of the Second Polish Republic. During World War II the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht 1939-45. After the founding of the People's Republic of Poland, a soda Combine ( kombinat sodowy ) was established in 1953, which was responsible for the development of the settlement of great significance. Due to the strong growth in population Janikowo received city rights in 1962.

Population Development

Between 1880 and 1882 there were about 56 people in the village. In 1962, the city had about 4,300 inhabitants.

The urban and rural community Janikowo has an area of 92.3 km ², of which about 13,600 people live. The commune includes, besides the town itself, following smaller towns, form the 10 districts ( sołectwo ):

Traffic

West of Jezioro Pakoskie is the Province Road 255, which leads from Strzelno after Pakość. The Autostrada A2 runs approximately 60 kilometers south of Janikowo.

The town has its own railway station. This makes a direct inter alia, to Toruń and Gniezno.

The nearest international airport is the Ignacy Paderewski -Jan- Airport Bydgoszcz, which is about 40 kilometers north.

Established businesses

By far the most important companies Janikowos is the chemical company Soda Polska SA Janikowo.

Education

In Janikowo there is a primary school ( szkoła podstawowa ) and a middle school ( gimnazjum ).
