János Hajnal

János Hajnal ( born August 27, 1913 in Budapest, † October 9, 2010 in Rome) was a Hungarian- Italian painter and graphic artist.

Hajnal studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, then in Frankfurt, Stockholm and Rome. He began his artistic career with book illustrations. At eighteen, he traveled for the first time to Florence to study Italian art. In 1948 he finally moved to Rome, where he focused on stained glass and mosaics. Ten years later he received the Italian citizenship.

He created stained glass windows of the Vatican audience hall and the cathedral of Naples.

1998 János Hajnal was awarded the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic. In 2002 he was appointed by President Ciampi Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica dell'Ordine.
