Jared (biblical figure)

Jared (even Jared, probably after the Arabic: "Rose" ) is a biblical figure in the Old Testament.

Jered was the eldest son of Mahalaleel and a descendant of the set. According to Gen 5.15 to 20 EU his father was 65 years old when he begot him. He himself, however, was at the age of 162 years for the first time father. He named his eldest son Enoch. He then said to have lived for 800 years and have had many other sons and daughters. Jered thus died at the age of 962 years.

Jered is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3.37 EU.

He is not to be confused with the aforementioned gene in 4.18 EU Irad, the grandson of Cain. The latter is not the Father, but a son, Enoch.
