Mahalalel

Mahalaleel ( " lighting up is God," according to Noth, or " recognition by God " according to Koehler ) is a biblical figure in the Old Testament.

Mahalaleel is the eldest son of Kenan, and a descendant of the set. According to Gen 5.12 to 17 EU his father was 70 years old when he begot him. He himself, however, was at the age of 65 years for the first time father. He named his eldest son Jared. He then said to have lived for 830 years and have had many other sons and daughters. Mahalaleel died thus at the age of 895 years.

Mahalaleel is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3.37 EU.

He is not to be confused with the aforementioned gene in 4.18 EU Mehujael, a descendant of Cain.
