Jargalant, Khövsgöl

The city Dschargalant (Mongolian Жаргалант ) is located in northern Mongolia in the province ( aimag ) Chöwsgöl. It is the seat of the administration of the homonymous district ( Sum). The official name of the city, Orgil (Mongolian Оргил ), many Mongolians are not familiar with, as in Mongolia, the name of the county town usually is identical to the name of the Sums, of which there are 331 in Mongolia.

Location and size

The 2549 km ² large sum Dschargalant counted 5183 inhabitants in 2009 (mostly Khalkha ), of whom 1315 lived in the city Dschargalant. Many of the inhabitants live in yurts. The city is located 172 km southeast of Moron, the capital of the aimag Chöwsgöl, and 886 km north-west of Ulaanbaatar. Not far from the city flows the Ider, with a length of 452 km of the eight longest river in Mongolia.

Traffic

Like many other towns in Mongolia, as well Dschargalant can be reached only on slopes, not on a paved road. Not far from the city performs a built 1940 wooden bridge over the Ider. Vehicles for transporting people it may however happen only without their passengers, the passengers cross the bridge on foot. A concrete bridge is currently (2011) under construction.

Attractions

  • The museum next to stuffed animals and sacred objects also photos of Öndör Gongor ( Өндөр Гонгор ) to see a man of extraordinary height, who came from Dschargalant and about 1880 to 1930 lived. The name literally means "The high Gongor ". Its size is given on the one hand with 2.36m, on the other hand also with 2.45 m or 2.63 m.
  • Also worth seeing is the monastery Dschargalantiin Dugan founded in 1890.
  • A few kilometers north of the city, a 3 -meter-high stupa made ​​of granite is worth seeing on the road to Moron, which was built in 1890 by the monk Gelenkhüü. To the person of Gelenkhüü (1870-1937), who also came out of the room Dschargalant, numerous legends. Infrastructure

As a regional center, in which different agencies have their headquarters, Dschargalant has two hotels, schools, a kindergarten and a health and maternity ward. Various contracts are used to cover the daily needs. A few kilometers east of the city exist in a ger camp accommodation options for tourists.
