Jascha Brodsky

Jascha Brodsky ( Latvian Jaroslavs Brodsky ) (* June 6, 1907 in Latvia, † March 3, 1997 in Ocala, Florida ) was a violin teacher at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.

Brodsky studied in the 1920s Eugène Ysaye and later with Efrem Zimbalist, so that he was at the time of the last representative of the so-called Franco- Belgian violin school.

He taught from 25 to 89 years, according to great influence he exerted on the development of violin playing in the 20th century. Among his students Hilary Hahn, Leila Josefowicz, Judith Ingolsson. He did not make his students to copies of itself, but promoted the development of a personal style. He was for 60 years the first violinist of the Curtis String Quartet.
