The Low jasmine or Yellow Jasmine ( Jasminum humile ) is a shrub of the family Oleaceae ( Oleaceae ). The distribution area is located in Central to East Asia. The species is sometimes used because of the flowers as ornamental plant.

Description

The Low Jasmine is an evergreen, climbing slightly, from 0.3 to 3 meters tall shrub with weakly -edged, green branches. The leaves are alternate to 0.5 to 2 inches long stalks. The leaf blade is composed of simple or from three to nine, but usually 5 leaflets. The leaves are ovate to lanceolate, rarely obovate, obtuse or acute with rounded or wedge- shaped base. The terminal leaflet is 0.6 to 6.0 inches long and 0.2 to 2.0 inches wide, the side are 0.2 to 4.5 inches long and 0.2 to 2.0 inches wide. The upper leaf surface is dull green, the underside is lighter. The leaflets two to four pairs of nerves are formed.

The flowers are in groups of one to ten, rarely to 15 in umbel -like inflorescences. The individual flowers grow on 0.2 to 3.0 centimeters long stems. The calyx is shorter than the corolla tube and terminating in triangular to pfriemlichen cloth. The corolla is yellow, almost like a funnel with a 0.8 to 1.6 cm long corolla tube and rounded to elliptical lobes 3-7 mm in length. As fruits elliptical to rounded, 6-11 mm long and 4-10 mm wide berries are purple-black when ripe, is formed.

Distribution and ecology

The distribution area of the Low Jasmin is located in a temperate Asia in Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the Chinese provinces of Gansu, Guizhou, Sichuan, Xizang and Yunnan; in tropical Asia in Bhutan, Northern India, Nepal and Pakistan. It grows in steppes and dry forests in 1100-3800 meters above sea level on fresh, mildly acidic to mildly alkaline, sandy- loamy to loamy, moderately fertile soil in light to partial shade. The species is thermophilic and moderately frost hardy.

Systematics and history of research

The Low jasmine ( Jasminum humile ) is a species from the section alternifolia, genus Jasminum, assigned to the tribe Jasmineae, family Oleaceae ( Oleaceae ). The species was described by Linnaeus in 1753 in his work Species Plantarum first time scientifically.

  • Jasminum humile var microphyllum (LC Chia ) PS Green leaves with blunt

Use

The Low jasmine is sometimes used due to the decorative flowers as an ornamental plant.
