Jason Smyth

Jason Lloyd Smyth ( born July 4, 1987 in Derry, Northern Ireland ) is an Irish visually impaired athlete.

Smyth began his athletic career as a sprinter in 2003. At the World Championships in Assen in 2006 succeeded Smyth to win gold and set up to 100 m and 200 m respectively a world record.

Smyth took part in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games for the first time. There he won the T13 classification of the men at 100 m the second gold medal for Ireland. He broke the case prepared by himself world record of 10.85 s first in qualifying with a score of 10.81 s and then in the final with a score of 10.62 s also in the T13 classification of the men on 200 m could he a gold medal, the third for Ireland, and win with a time of 21.43 s improve his world record of 2006.

The European Athletics Championships 2010 in Barcelona Smyth occurred on 100 meters in the competition of men. He is the first disabled athlete who participated at European Athletics Championships.

After Smyth 2011 s reached about 100 m remarkable 10.22, he could s not quite match at the World Athletics Championships 2011 in Daegu with 10.57 of this performance and was eliminated in fifth place in the run- off. Together with Oscar Pistorius, he is the first disabled athlete who participated in track and field world championships.

In the Summer Paralympics in London in 2012 he put forward in the 100 m run in the T13 classification with 10.54 s a new official world record. The following final he could to 10.46 s improve this value and so defend his victory from 2008. The same he succeeded on the 200 -meter track where he also set a new world record in the final with 21.05 s.
