Javan warty pigs and humans

The island of Java, the home of these animals is colonized extremely dense which has meant that their habitat is increasingly limited and fragmented. There are also the hunting and the risk of hybridization with feral pigs. This has meant that the nature of the IUCN as endangered ( endangered ) is performed.

2007 has been launched in collaboration of the Los Angeles Zoo and the Zoological Society for the Protection of Species and Populations ( ZGAP ) a conservation breeding program for this species. In Cikananga Wildlife Center in Java, about 200 kilometers south of the capital Jakarta, animals are bred in captivity in order to both study the biology of these barely documented way as to allow a reintroduction of these animals.
