Jean-André Valletaux

Jean -André Valletaux ( born November 23, 1773 in Hiersac, † June 23, 1811 at Cogorderos ) was a French brigadier general.

Life

Valletaux was early a follower of Napoleon and joined him already during the revolutionary wars to. He could repeatedly distinguished by bravery and was promoted very quickly.

He joined the rank of general in the staff of Marshal Nicolas Jean -de- Dieu Soult and helped enforce the Napoleonic policy in Spain. He fought bravely at Buçaco (27 September 1810) and at Gévora (19 February 1811). In the Battle of Fuentes de Oñoro ( 3 / May 5, 1811 ), it was easy and at the Battle of Cogorderos (23 June 1811) he was mortally wounded.

He died on the same day and was, on the banks of Orvigo, buried on the edge of the battlefield. His grave stone was the inscription: Ci - git un général couronné par la gloire et qui ne fait jamais dans les combats vaincu. Passer de la mémoire Valletaux respecte il mourut en héros comme il avait vécu.
