Jean Balissat

Jean Balissat ( born May 15, 1936 in Lausanne, † 16 September, 2007 Corcelles -le- Jorat ) was a Swiss composer, music teacher, musician and conductor.

Life

Jean Balissat studied in Lausanne with Hans Haug harmony and counterpoint, and from 1954 in Geneva André- François Marescotti composition and orchestration as well as Samuel Baud -Bovy conducting. In parallel, he studied percussion with Charles Peschier and horn with Robert Faller.

1972 to 1983 he was professor of composition and orchestration at the Conservatoire active in Geneva. Since 1979 he worked as a professor at the Conservatory of Lausanne. Through his teaching at the conservatories of Geneva and Lausanne, he led many young students to composition and orchestration.

He was also from 1960 to 1983 conductor in various brass bands, including 12 years at the famous Concert La Landwehr in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Jean Balissat was from 1986 to 1990 Head of the Swiss Association of Musicians (STV) and since 1991 President of the SUISA ( " Swiss Society for the Rights of Authors of Musical Works ").
