Jean Baptiste Leprince

Jean Baptiste Leprince (* September 17, 1734 in Metz, † September 30, 1781 in St. Denise -du- Port, Jean- Baptiste Le Prince) was a French painter.

Life

Leprince was known for his historical paintings, landscapes, portraits and graphic works. Leprince developed, among other 1765-1768 the graphic intaglio technique of aquatint. In Germany, the engraver and architect Johann Carl Friedrich Dauthe gained notoriety in 1770 by some leaves in aquatint, behind whose secret he seems to be passing through experiments. He dedicated his first sheet Leprince.

Leprince studied with the great French painter François Boucher and went in 1758, at the age of 24 years for 5 years after Russia. In St. Petersburg, he was instrumental in the interior decoration of the imperial palace. He traveled extensively through Russia ( to Siberia ) and became known after his return to Paris for his Russian genre scenes.
