Jean-Baptiste Weckerlin

Jean -Baptiste Weckerlin ( born November 9, 1821 in Guebwiller, † May 20 1910 in Trott mountain in Guebwiller ) was a French composer and music publisher.

Weckerlin studied at the Paris Conservatory, Jacques Fromental Halévy among others. From 1850 to 1885 he was conductor of the " Société Sainte -Cécile " from 1863 and archivist of the " Société de Musique of Composers ". From 1876 to 1909 he was head of the library of the Paris Conservatoire.

Works

He composed a total of 20 stage works, operas, operettas and operas in two Colmar dialect, as well as numerous choral works and songs. He was editor of several anthologies of French folk songs, he published a "Histoire de l' Intrumentation " and wrote a catalog of the ligand is located in the library of the Conservatoire works.
