Jean-Claude Fruteau

Jean -Claude Fruteau ( born June 6, 1947 in Saint- Benoît on the island of La Réunion ) is a French politician of the Socialist Party.

Fruteau received 1972 teaching certificate, the so-called Agrégation of Philology and then worked as a professor of the top step. In the PS, he was almost twenty years first secretary of the department of Réunion. From 1983 to 1999 he was mayor of Saint- Benoît and also sat for many years on the General Council of the department of La Réunion. From 1999 to 2007 he was a member of the European Parliament for the overseas départements. Since 2007 he is member of the National Assembly for the fifth constituency of La Réunion.
