Jean de Beck

Baron Johann von Beck ( * 1588 in Luxembourg; † August 20, 1648 in Arras ) was an imperial general field sergeant and 1642 civil and military governor of the Duchy of Luxembourg and the county Chiny.

Life

He was the son of a messenger on horseback and was already at the age of 13 years soldier. He later returned to Bohemia and helped 1618 in educating Prague plans against King Ferdinand. This secured him rapid promotion and the county Wÿdimb ( Wydumb ). He could in 1632 at the Battle excel at Nuremberg and contributed significantly to raise the siege of Ingolstadt in the spring of 1632 at. In 1635 he received the castle ring home, which in 1656 sold his son Johann Georg Freiherr von Beck again. For his services he was raised to the peerage in 1637. On 7 June 1639, he led the vanguard of the troops under the command of Field Marshal Octavio Piccolomini and could occupy the local fortress in the battle of Thionville. From 1642 he was a civil and military governor of Luxembourg and Chiny. On November 27, 1639, he bought the Beaufort Castle and was built by the same lock. In the Battle of Lens in 1648 he commanded again a vanguard. He was defeated by Marshal Louis II de Bourbon. During the battle, he was captured and mortally wounded brought to Arras, where he died.
