Jean François Leval
Jean -François Leval ( born April 18, 1762, Paris; † August 7, 1834 ) was a French general of the infantry.
Life
Leval was the son of Jean François Leval unddessen wife Marie Madeleine Ducres. He entered early into the royal army and was stationed for some time in the colonies; inter alia, he fought at Pensacola. From 1791, he was again stationed in and around Paris. Back in France, he was early on a partisan of Napoleon. He fought in the Battle of Tienen (16 March 1792) under the command of General Cyrus -Marie -Alexandre de Timbronne de Valence and was beginning in 1793 to the Sambre and Meuse Army (Jean -Baptiste Jourdan ) was added.
In the Grande Armée Leval quickly made career and was promoted in 1794 to general. As such, he fought at Fleurus (26 June 1794), at Ostrach (21 March 1799), in Stock (25 March 1799), at Jena (14 October 1806), in Lübeck (6 November 1806) and also in Prussian Eylau ( February 7/8 1807).
Leval could briefly return to France, but was soon entrusted with a new command to enforce the Napoleonic interests in Spain. Leval fought in Spain and Portugal, and was several times distinguished by bravery. He participated in the battles of Pancorbo (31 October 1808), Medellin (28 March 1809), Talavera ( 27-28. July 1809 ), Ocaña (19 November 1809), Barrosa (5 March 1811), Tarifa (21 June 1813) and Bayonne ( 9./13. December 1813 ) part.
The siege of Tarifa, end 1811 to early 1812, he had to cancel inconclusive; all other warlike actions where Leval had participated, were successfully made for Napoleon. 1814 Leval returned with his troops to France.
When Napoleon was exiled to the island of Elba you Leval withdrew into private life and joined the " rule of the Hundred Days " not to.
At the age of 72 years Jean -François Leval died on August 7, 1834 in Paris and found his final resting place.
