Jean Gallon

Jean Gallon ( born June 25, 1878 in Paris, † June 23, 1959 ) was a French composer and teacher of composition.

Like his brother, Noël Gallon, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire, whose concerts he directed from 1906 to 1914. He taught from 1919 to 1949 harmony at the Conservatoire. His pupils included Maurice Duruflé, among others, Olivier Messiaen, Henri Challan, Jeanne Demessieux, Jean Rivier and Pierre Sancan. From 1909 to 1914 he directed the choir of the Paris Opera.

He has composed a ballet, a fair, six antiphons for strings and organ, as well as songs.
