Jean Karat

Jean Karat (* 1949 in Qamishli; † 7 December 2003) was an Aramaic folk singers and artists.

Jean Karat was born in 1949 in the northern Syrian city of Qamishli. He is one of the most important singers of the Aramaic music. He grew up in Qamishli and began as a teenager, together with other well-known singers such as Aramaic Farid Youssef, Elias Karam ( Domit ) and Jalil Maiilo to sing.

Songs like " Hesh Ono Z ' ouro " ( written and sung by Farid Youssef ) are among his first musical works that were heard in the Aramaic music world. In the 1970s, Jean -carat composed songs such as " O Zamoro ", " Halyo yo ou yawmano ", " Lema A ' mekh " and " Mena ' mouthi Rhimoli ", which are among his most successful.

In addition to numerous Aramaic songs carats is also known for his songs in Arabic. Jean Karat was not only musically active - he painted and also wrote you. Particularly well known were his calligraphy in the Aramaic script, which now decorate many Aramaic churches and organization building ( the majority of them in Qamishli ). On December 7, 2003, died at the age of 54 years carat. His son Fadi is also a musician.
