Jean-Marc Bustamante

Jean -Marc Bustamante ( born 1952 in Toulouse ) is a French painter, sculptor and photographer.

Life

Jean -Marc Bustamante studied business before, for which he worked with the support of the still life photographer Denis Brihat and William Klein as an assistant, who turned Photography.

In 1983 he met the sculptor Bernard Bazile, with whom he worked for three years and exhibited under the pseudonym Community Bazilebustamante.

Bustamante currently teaches at the École nationale supérieure des beaux -arts in Paris in multimedia.

In April 2010 he was appointed to the chair of painting and graphic art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Work

Jean -Marc Bustamante's work is characterized by an exchange between sculpture, painting and photography, in which he mainly devoted his attention to photography. In his " Photographic images ", he tries to bring together these different media, thus changing our perception of these media.

In 1978 he began to create large-format color photographs, which he titled Tableaux. He was known primarily for his incurred in the suburbs of Barcelona pictures that illustrate the space of the city limits.

More recently, he preferred plexiglass as an image carrier. His interest is especially the color.

In 2003, the artist designed the pavilion of the Venice Biennale.

Exhibitions

Jean -Marc Bustamante is since 1977 regularly in European galleries (France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Austria ... ). He showed his works in the United States and Canada (from 1993), in Japan ( as of 1994 ) and in Israel ( 1997).

Noteworthy is the great exhibition of 2006 at the Kunsthaus Bregenz, where Jean -Marc Bustamante occupied four floors and outside of the museum building created a light installation, as well as his collaboration with the American artist Ed Ruscha for the exhibition L'horizon chimérique at the Musée d' Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg.
