Jean-Marie Bockel

Jean -Marie Bockel ( born June 22, 1950 in Strasbourg ) is a French politician of the La Gauche modern.

Life

Bockel studied law and worked as a lawyer after studying end. He became a member of the Party Socialist Party. From 1989 to 2010 he was mayor of Mulhouse in Alsace. From 1981 to 2002 he has been intermittently deputy in the National Assembly. Briefly, he was Secretary of State and Minister of Tourism in 1986 in the government of Laurent Fabius as successor to Michel Crépeau. From 2004 to 2007 he sat in the Senate.

In 2007, the party Bockel La Gauche modern, when he accepted an appointment as Secretary of State of Justice in the government of François Fillon and resigned from the Socialist Party. Bockel criticized the retention of the PS to socialist redistribution policy and sought a new social policy along the lines of Tony Blair and Gerhard Schröder. The Office of Secretary of State he held until November 2010. Since December 2010, he belongs to the Senate for the department of Haut-Rhin.
