It was in 1985 the first woman who was set on the Palomar Observatory for servicing the large telescope after they held the same position at Mount Wilson Observatory since 1983.

Success as a discoverer of celestial bodies

  • She is the discoverer of 15 comets, seven periodic and non-periodic eight.
  • In addition, they discovered in the period from 1987 to 2003 a total of 10 asteroids, two of them along with their colleagues.
  • By 2006, they discovered 98 supernovae, and was the Mitentdeckerin from 9 further. Thus, it is close to the record of Fritz Zwicky, who recorded 121 discoveries.
