Jean Spautz

Jean Spautz ( born November 9, 1930 in Schifflingen ) is a Luxembourgian politician (CSV).

Spautz worked as a mill worker at Arbed steel and was in the fifties, president of the Catholic working-class youth. From 1960 to 1966 he was chairman of the Youth Section of the CSV and then from 1967 to 1980 Chairman of the Christian Trade Union Confederation of Luxembourg. From 1982 to 1990 he was chairman of the Christian Social People's Party.

Spautz was from 1964 to 1980 Member of the Municipal Council of Schifflingen and 1975-1980 mayor of Schifflingen. From 1982 to 1990, Spautz President of the CSV. He is since 1959 member of the Chambre des Députés, where he was Vice President in 1979 and 1980 and from 1995 to 2004 President. Since 2004 he is honorary president there. From 1980 to 1989, Minister of Interior and Minister of Family, social housing and social solidarity. From 1989 to 1995 he was Minister of the Interior and Minister of Housing and Urbanism.

Spautz was from 1968 to 1979 Member of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe and member of the Assembly of Western European Union. From 1979 to 1980 and again from 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament.
