Al - Jabal al - Akhdar (Arabic الجبل الأخضر, DMG al - Ǧabal al - Ahdar, the green mountain ', other transcriptions: Jebel Akhdar, Jabal Akhdar and Jebel Akhdar ) is a mountain range in Oman. It extends to a length of 300 km from northwest to southeast, about 50-100 km from the coast of the Gulf of Oman. The highest peak, Jabal Shams ( Sun Mountain '), reaches a height of about 3000 m. (These data are not uniform ). He is the highest point of Oman and the eastern Arabian Peninsula, and lies about 150 km from Muscat. Likewise, it is the second highest point of Oman, the Jabal Kawr, in this mountain range.

The largest part of the mountains is desert, only cases in higher regions annually about 300 mm of precipitation, so that shrubs and trees is possible and agriculture can be operated. Hence the name " Green Mountain " comes.

Between 1957 and 1959 occurred in the Jabal al - Akhdar conflict between Omani military, which was supported by British soldiers of the SAS, and supported by Saudi Arabia insurgents.
