Jeffrey Heath

Jeffrey Heath ( born 1949 ) is an American professor of Historical Linguistics, Morphology, Arabic and Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Michigan. He has become known primarily for its historical- linguistic work and his extensive field research on Australian languages ​​( 1970 ), Maghreb Arab Languages ​​( 1980 ), and - since the 1990s - the languages ​​of Mali, in particular the Songhai languages.

Life

Heath was educated at Harvard (BA 1971) and at the University of Chicago ( MA 1973, Ph.D. 1976).

From 1973 to 1977 he was Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies, 1977 to 1985 Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Linguistics at Harvard. In 1987 he moved to the University of Michigan, where he has been Professor since 1989.
