Jennifer Simons

Jennifer Simons ( born September 5, 1953 in Paramaribo, Suriname ) is a Surinamese politician. She is since 2010 Chairman of the National Assembly of Suriname.

Life and work

Simons was born in Paramaribo, the daughter of civilian employee in the military Alwin Desire Menke and nurse Irma Helouise Simons. She is the first born in a family with four children.

After visiting the Algemene Middelbare School ( AMS) and the acquisition of higher education she graduated from 1974 to 1979 at the Anton de Kom University in Paramaribo study medicine. Thereafter followed an internship.

Profession

From 1981 to 2010 she was employed as a General Practitioner at the Ministry of Public Health. Initially she worked as a district doctor in Onverwacht and from 1982 at the Hospital of Paramaribo as a doctor. From 1984 to 2002 Simon worked in the Department of Dermatology at the Ministry of Public Health. Here she was from 1996 to 2001 manager of the National AIDS Program.

Policy

Since 1996, Simon is responsible for the National Democratic Partij (NDP ) of the party 's founder Dési Bouterse MPs. In their partisan is a member of the 17 -member Central Board. During her time as a parliamentarian she was until 2010, inter alia, as fraction leader of their party and in various parliamentary committees with a focus on health and adoption of information and communication technology in education operates.

On 30 June 2010, in the first session after the parliamentary elections of May 25, 2010 Jennifer Simons was elected with 26 of 51 votes for the Speaker of Parliament.

Jennifer (short: Jenny ) Simons is married to Glenn Geerlings and they have three children.
