Jens Geier

Jens Geier ( born June 22, 1961 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German politician. He's since the 2009 European elections MEP for the SPD and a member of the S & D Group.

Life

Geier was born in 1961 in Frankfurt am Main. He grew up in Essen, went to school there and made High School in 1980. Then vultures did his community service in the workers' welfare and studied in the period 1982 to 1989 History, Literature and Politics at the Ruhr- University Bochum. After he finished his studies, vultures worked until 1992 as a research assistant to the SPD MEPs Detlev Samland. From 1992 to 1999 he was the SPD party executive worked first as assistant to the party chairman Björn Engholm, then at the deputy party chairman Heidemarie Wieczorek -Zeul. From 1999 to 2001 Geier worked as a consultant for public relations at the SPD Regional Executive North Rhine -Westphalia. From 2001 to 2006 he worked as a project manager and press officer at the Projekt Ruhr GmbH. From 2006 up to his entry into the European Parliament worked vultures at Deloitte in the real estate issues facing the public sector. He is married and has a son.

Political career

Geier joined the SPD in 1977. As a representative of non-dogmatic socialist reform wing, he was from 1989 to 1992 deputy national chairman of the Young Socialists, responsible for the issues of international policy, development cooperation, Europe and the fight against right-wing extremism. Vulture prepared the foundation of the European Community Organisation of Socialist Youth ( ECOSY ) the merger of socialist and social democratic youth organizations in the European Union before and belonged in 1992 to the founding members.

He is a member of the workers' welfare, the trade union Verdi, the European Union and Germany in the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Foundation Zollverein.

After two unsuccessful attempts at the European elections in 1999 and 2004, managed vulture 2009 representation in the European Parliament.

As MEPs Geier is a member of the Budget Committee, the Committee on Budgetary Control and the Delegation for relations with Japan. As a deputy, he has worked in the Committee on Regional Development and the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
