Film idea

"When we then turned Yella, we read in a Prignitzer newspaper that police had arrested a Vietnamese. He stood beside his broken car on the roadside. Broken axle, rear axle. The trunk full of coins, that was enough for an arrest. It turned out that the man belonged to 45 snack bars that money were change and daily receipts in the trunk. He had built up a business, buy a house, just outside, in a forest, far away from other houses, for himself and his family. "

" At the same time, the term includes the great word 'homeland'. When people come in Germany with this word, foreigners have to be careful. That's why I thought it was important that it is just like a Turk Ali, the middle of Saxony -Anhalt has the money, the house and the company. In the presentation by James M. Cain - The Postman Always Rings Twice ' - is it also about a Greek. That in Cain's love story also racism plays an important role, I was never appreciated enough. This racism is, home -building hidden in the word ' in a terrible way. "

Locations

The film was shot in the Prignitz and the Baltic Sea among others in Wittenberg, Rostock and in Ahrenshoop of 21 April 2008 to 6 June 2008. In Jerichow was not rotated.

Criticism

" A complex, theatrically intense drama about dreams, desires and passion, in which the protagonist aimlessly drifting through life and believe only in goods that are tangible with the hands. On the basis of a detective novel, the Luchino Visconti filmed in 1942 ( Ossessione ), was an impressive film that convincingly reflects not only German sensibilities. "

"With Jerichow Petzold is a fascinating update his filmography succeeded presented with inimitable views of landscapes, with scarce strokes sketched life world and everyday work - and if you want to know generations later, what it was like in this country, what people did and how they felt have, then you will find it here. "

"From the beginning Jerichow developed an almost physical experience of suction. It is formed by images that show the German east into their bright clarity and yet possess the power of abstraction of a large cinema narrative. And by an actor whose looks and body the dialogues are always one step ahead. "
