Ahrenshoop

The Ahrenshoop is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is part of the Office Darß / fish country located in Born Darß. It is located on the Peninsula chain fish- darss at the transition from fish to land Darß.

Across the community Ahrenshoop runs the historical border between Mecklenburg and Pomerania, the nucleus Ahrenshoop is historically a Vorpommern, while the districts were Althagen and Nienhagen earlier Mecklenburg.

Geography

The seaside resort of Ahrenshoop in the fish country region on the German Baltic coast of Mecklenburg Bay is located on the compound of Darß peninsula to the mainland. Ahrenshoop located on the Baltic Sea and Bodden coast ( Saal Bodden ) and thus has water on two sides. Nearest large middle centers are Barth ( on the Meiningenbrücke bridge) and Ribnitz Damgarten, the nearest big city is Rostock. The resort is divided into the three districts Althagen, Niehagen and Ahrenshoop. The eponymous district Ahrenshoop located in Western Pomerania, the districts Althagen and Niehagen lie in Mecklenburg.

History

1390 was the Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw VI. Ahrens Hoop - called 1311 Arne Shop - expand to a larger commercial town in order to benefit from increased trading volumes. The former Arne shop was something northeasterly of today's village at the former marine Loop. It was an important trading center with up to 500 residents. Bogislaw built a castle with a moat. The place was already in 1395 but destroyed by the Rostock troops and filled the harbor.

The place at its present location was founded in 1760 by sailors. End of the 19th century painter settled. As a result, the place became a seaside resort. 1909 Kunstkaten was built in which has since held many exhibitions. The artist colony Ahrenshoop not part of the Mecklenburg fish country, but as the western Pomeranian place the peninsula fish - darss for Pomeranian Darß. It was not until in 1950 the annexation of the Mecklenburg places Althagen and Niehagen to Ahrenshoop.

Ahrenshoop was (without Althagen and Niehagen ) until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Ribnitz Damgarten in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Ahrens Hoop belongs to the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

Policy

The municipal council consists of the mayor and eight other members. Since the local elections on September 4, 2011 is composed of three representatives of the CDU, the two of the SPD and the conveyance Ahrenshoop, one representative put the IG Hospitality and the Free Voters.

Artist colony

End of the 19th century the painters Paul Müller - Kaempff, Fritz Grebe, Thuro Balzer, Friedrich Wachenhusen, Oskar Frenzel and Theobald Schorn founded an artists' colony and painting school in Ahrenshoop. At the colony also included Louis Douzette, Elisabeth von Eicken, Hugo Müller- Lefensdorf, Anna Gerresheim, Carl Rathjen, Doris at the end, César Klein, Dora cooking Stetter and Arnold Lyon green.

1911 spent Werefkin and Alexej Jawlensky, who belonged to the Munich New Artists' Association, their holidays on the Baltic Sea. They lived in the nearby Prerow in the former "Villa Starfish" in the forest road and visited demonstrably Ahrenshoop. A short distance held at the same time the bridge painter Erich Heckel with dancer Sidi Riha in the "Landhaus Dorneneck " in the Green road on. Whether he came to Ahrenshoop, is not occupied. From 1923 to 1948 and lived the painter Hans Brass. He reasoned with Martha Wegscheider the "Bunte Stube" and served from 1927 to 1930 as Chief Administrator and 1944 as mayor.

From 1948 to 1953, the Rostock painter Rudolf Schmidt Dethloff ( 1900-1971 ) had his studio in Ahrenshoop and gave painting lessons there too.

In the district Niehagen, in Boddenweg 1, lived and worked for the sculptor Gerhard Marcks in the 1930s. In the 1960s, Edmund Kesting has spent the summer working in Ahrenshoop.

In the district Althagen the writer Kathe Miethe, which was one of the most famous authors of literature on Darß and fish country living. The Ahrenshooper library was named after her in 2007. Since 1944 lived in Althagen also the graphic artist Fritz Koch -Gotha and his wife, the expressionist painter Dora cooking Stetter.

From 1972 lived until his death in 1984 and worked for the painter and sculptor Rudolf Brückner Fuhlrott in Ahrenshoop, the Dresden painter Hans children spent from 1957 to 1985, the summer months in his little studio at home Grenzweg.
