Karnin

Karnin is a municipality west of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen. Until 1 January 2005, the municipality was part of the Office Barth country and has since been part of the Office Barth.

Geography and transport

Karnin is located about 17 kilometers west of the city of Stralsund and about 25 kilometers east of Ribnitz -Damgarten, south of the Baltic Sea bay Grabow in a flat area with no major surveys. History

Karnin was first mentioned on 25 September 1242 as the Duke Rüganer Witzlaw I. the sale of the village Karnin to the Master lwanus confirmed. The place name probably comes from the Slavic locator Karna could, therefore, mean place of Karna. In 1325, the country came to Pomerania.

In the Thirty Years' War Karnin was plundered and robbed during the siege of Stralsund. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Karnin came to Swedish Pomerania.

His son Wilhelm Gustav Christian Henning died in 1942 from lung cancer. His widow, Renate Henning, born musculus, was expropriated without compensation on September 29, 1945 during the land reform and permanently expelled from the village with its eight minor children, and the only two-year old daughter of their fallen brother. She had in the aftermath least 20 km away from Karnin reside and died in the spring of 1946 in Stralsund, on the consequences of a Hungerödems. Castle Karnin

The castle was built in 1830 for Friedrich Wilhelm von Soden star in a combination of English and German neo-Gothic Tudor style.

The castle had 26 rooms furnished. The hall was equipped with hunting trophies and old oak furniture, frames the windows with Saufedern, on the wall there was a hunting paintings by Lilliefors. The "Blue Salon" was decorated with a baroque suite, two large mirrors and precious wood furniture, on the wall hung a painting of Douzette. The tower of the castle was damaged by an explosion in 1945 and finally demolished in the 50s. 1975, with a reconstruction of the roof, all battlements away and the slate cover replaced by brick, so that in the current state remembers little of the original architecture.
