Glewitz

Glewitz is a municipality south of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen, which belonged to 15 February 2004 on the then defunct Office Trebeltal and has since been managed by the Office Franzburg- Richtenberg with headquarters in the city Franzburg.

Geography and transport

Glewitz is located about 14 km southwest of Pomerania and about 15 km north of Demmin. North of the village runs the A 20, which the West Pomerania - terminal ( about 9 km) can be reached.

History

After the dissolution of the Principality of Rügen, the village belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania.

After the Thirty Years War to the year 1815, the area belonged to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania.

The municipality was until 1952 part of the district of Pomerania and was thereafter until 1994 Circle of Pomerania in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Glewitz part of the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

The first written mention of the village Glewitz can be found in the book " documents the history of the Principality of Rügen", Vol 3 No certificates. 393 and dates from 1293.

In Memoralienbuch the parish is also noted that the population was at that time primarily of farmers and settlers. In addition to the present-day spelling of the place name we also find the forms Glowitz and Chlewitz.

The castle of Turow is from the origin already in the 12th century. The castle was first mentioned in 1387. It was built on the remains of the previous castle to water castle in the 15th century with moat and outer wall. The floor plan is U-shaped with a surface area of ​​200 x 175 m. The house had several phases of construction, additions and alterations. The tower has been preserved in the core. The so-called " Blue Room " was used as a chapel since 1900 - it is a cross -vaulted central column, painted on the walls canvas wallpapers Arcadian landscapes from 1820, the castle has a small courtyard, which is closed by a gate.. The Good Turow belonged in the 17th century the family of Künzheim and from 1724 to the family of Ferber until 1915.
