Altenpleen

Altenpleen a municipality is northwest of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen. The community is managed by the Office Altenpleen based in the community Altenpleen.

Geography and transport

Altenpleen is located about 14 km northwest of Stralsund and about 16 km east of Barth. The district is located on the Nisdorf Grabow. The municipality is located in the northernmost corner of the mainland in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The municipal area is flat without significant elevations. West of Altenpleen, the district Günz is the Günzer lake.

History

First permanent settlements already existed in the Neolithic period (3300 BC). Germanic tribes lived here until the migration of peoples, and left in the 5th and 6th centuries, the area again. From the 7th century, the area was settled Slavic. So comes the place name " Altenpleen " from the Slavic " Polande " and means as much as "inhabitants of a free field, Arabah ."

Altenpleen and Neuenpleen were first mentioned in documents in 1312. Today the district Nisdorf was first mentioned in 1302.

The area belonged to the 14th century, the Principality of Rügen and then to the city of Stralsund. After the Thirty Years War to the year 1815, the area belonged to Sweden and then to Prussia.

The congregation was then until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Stralsund in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Altenpleen part of the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.
