Kummerow, Nordvorpommern

Kummerow is a municipality west of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen. The community is managed by the Office Niepars based in the community Niepars. The place name is of Slavic origin and means as much as Mückenort derived from Komor for mosquito.

Geography and transport

Kummerow is approximately 13 kilometers southwest of the city of Stralsund and about 21 kilometers east of Ribnitz Damgarten. Through the community, the B 105 and the railway line Stralsund to Rostock runs. The municipal area, there are no major lakes and woodlands. In the west the municipality borders on the Karnin wood.

History

After the last until 1326 belonging to the Principality of Rügen, were place and region to the Duchy of Pomerania. With the end of the Thirty Years' War by the year 1815, the area belonged to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania. The community was until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Stralsund in the district of Rostock.
