History

Papenhagen is named after an early German foundation that goes back probably to the monastery Neuenkamp ( Pommern ). At least since the early 19th century Papenhagen was a farming community, today show the structures of the village with the spaced individual farmsteads. Located in the village was the now demolished restaurant. Papenhagen had two windmills, which were in operation in the 20th century. In the meadows between Papenhagen and Rolofshagen there was the workhouse the community. At the exit toward Hoikenhagen was the village school.

Rolofshagen was also a German clearing settlement, but was an estate village and the parish village of the municipality. From the early German foundation still shows a watchable Tower Hill with moat.
