Preetz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Preetz is a town northwest of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen. The community is managed by the Office Altenpleen based in the community Altenpleen.

Geography and transport

Preetz is located about seven kilometers northwest of Stralsund. The municipality is located in the northernmost corner of the mainland in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The community area is used almost exclusively for agricultural purposes. In the municipality there is not a larger forest area and larger bodies of water. Worth mentioning is the Prohner river stream in the east and north of the community.

In Stralsund, the nearest rail connection and the connection is to the B 96 and B 105

History

Preetz was first mentioned in documents as Poresze in 1254. The name is of Slavic origin and means as much as situated on a river or stream. This is also the situation in the Prohner Bach. After earlier church records Preetz belonged from 1400 to 1700 the city of Stralsund. After the Thirty Years War to the year 1815, the area belonged to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania.

The congregation was then until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Stralsund in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Preetz part of the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.
