Breege

Breege is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). The community is managed by the Office North Rügen with its headquarters in the town of Sagard.

Geography

The community is located at the junction of Breege Schaab to the peninsula in the ground moraine Wittow on Breeger Bodden, a part of the Great Jasmund Bodden. To the north it borders on the Tromper Wiek a bay of the Baltic Sea.

History

Breege goes back to a Slavic settlement and was first mentioned in 1313.

The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of Breege a part of Swedish Pomerania. In 1815 Breege came as part of Neuvorpommern the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Since 1818 Breege belonged to the circle or district Rügen. Only in the years 1952 to 1955 it was the county mountains belong. The village belonged until 1990 to Rügen county in the district of Rostock and in the same year part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The 1990 re- designated as the Rügen was 2011 in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 25 August 1998 by the Home Office and registered under No. 169 of the coat of arms role of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Blazon: " Divided by a shaft section; Top in Silver is a growing, gold gezungter and reinforced, doppelgeschweifter red lion; below in blue with a golden anchor w -shaped curved golden rope, beseitet each a silver linden leaf. "

The coat of arms was designed by the Weimar heraldist Michael Zapfe.

  • In Breege there are typical captain's houses from the 18th and 19th centuries to see. You are an indication that Breege was once a place of sailors and at times was considered the richest village of Ruegen.
  • Memorial complex dedicated to the fallen in the First World War in Breege
  • In the district Juliusruh was created in 1795 by Julius von der Lancken ten -acre park Juliusruh, which was built in the French and English style. The initiator of this park and founder of the village there is dedicated a granite monument. From the park only a part has been preserved as a park. The castle was destroyed.

Economy

Principal employment is now the tourist sector, which plays a role here since 1895. The previously dominant fishing industry has almost completely lost its meaning. The Lifeboat Dornbusch of GMRS stationed at the jetty of the sailing club.
