Tromper Wiek

The Tromper Wiek is a bay of the Baltic Sea between the peninsulas Wittow Jasmund and the island of Rügen.

This Wiek extends in a wide arc between the Cape Arkona in the north, the nearby towns on both sides of Schaabe Juliusruh and Glowe and the early Cretaceous part of the coast Stubnitz at Lohme.

The claim that the bay would be named after the Dutch Admiral Cornelis Tromp, who is also in the service of Denmark and Brandenburg led many battles in the second half of the 17th century, and came to Rügen is not occupied. In contrast, there is a twinge of Lubin'schen map of Pomerania from 1618, which shows that the bay was called before the birth of Cornelis Tromp ( 1629) Trumper Wiek.

In connection with the Great Northern War (1700-1721) threw on August 8, 1715 Swedish supply fleet to return to Bornholm the Danish fleet from Tromper Wiek out. This battle is the Swedish King Charles XII. have observed the king chair.
