Jeronimo Bassano

Jeronimo Bassano was an Italian musician of the 15th to the 16th century and the progenitor of the family of musicians Bassano, probably around 1540 emigrated to England and worked in the court chapel of Henry VIII. He was the son of Baptista Bassano, called Piva ( Italian for " bagpipe " ), from Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza, and the grandson of Andrea de Crespano. The family consisted of musicians and instrument makers. Whether they were related to the composer Giovanni Bassano, is unclear. At the beginning of the 16th century Jeronimo moved to Venice and became a master of the trumpet and shawm, as Pifferaro the Doge he occupied from 1506 to 1512.
