Jerry Cook

Jerry Cook ( born July 31, 1939 in Rome, New York ) is a former NASCAR driver. He is one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers and currently serves on the board of NASCAR as well as a member of the Competition Committee of NASCAR.

Racing career

He began at the age of 13 years with the racing. In 1969 he won at the Utica -Rome Speedway his first title. From 1971 to 1977, he won six championships in the Featherlite Modified Series. Interestingly, Cook comes from the same town as his biggest competitor Richie Evans, with whom he had several exciting duels on the track.

1982 Cook ended his racing career in the Modifies -Series, in which he won 342 races. In 2003 he was accepted by NASCAR in the list of the best Modified driver of all time.

1998 Cook drove a race in the Craftsman Truck Series, where he, however, gave up after two laps with clutch problems.

Work in NASCAR management

At the start of the 1985 season took over the post of director of the Cook Whelen Modified Tour. Later he moved to the Supervisory Board as well as the competition committee of NASCAR, where he is still active.
