Rome is a city in Oneida County ( New York) with 32,850 inhabitants ( 2010). The city, together with their common and Utica Utica -Rome surrounding the metropolitan area in the northern center of the state of New York. Politically, it is part of New York 's 24th congressional district.
With an area of 190.0 km ², the city is the second largest city by area in the state of New York. Rome is located 139 meters above the sea.
History
The city's history dates back to 1758 when the British military, the Fort Stanwix began to build. At least as 1763 the building was purchased, a settlement was around there. 1796 first the town was named Lynch Ville. 1777 had Oneida Indians and American patriots fought under Col. Peter Gansevoort against the British during the American Revolutionary War and held the Fort Stanwix. The British were of gene. Barry St. Leger commanded.
