Woodstock 1999

Woodstock III is a music festival which took place in Rome, New York in July 1999. It was organized to mark the 30th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, and was with Woodstock II, the second Festival in the 1990s, which saw himself in the tradition of the 1969 festival.

The festival was overshadowed by violent clashes. The atmosphere was heated from the outset due to the heat, the high ticket prices, as well as food and beverage costs. Also, some artists such as The Offspring, heated up the atmosphere and the 250,000 visitors with their stage show, were destroyed in the so -called " Backstreet Boys Dummies", continues to grow. In the mosh pit several visitors were seriously injured. As the sun went down on Saturday and Limp Bizkit came on stage, the atmosphere reached its boiling point and the first riots began in the crowd. During the presentation of Limp Bizkit several men raped a woman right in front of the stage. There have been destroyed and toilets ripped out Absperrbanden, which were used as surf boards for crowd surfing. A day later, at the end of the festival during the performance of Red Hot Chili Peppers, rioted again visitors on the site. The second stage at the festival site with the name " East - Stage" was destroyed by the audience and went up in flames. The Present MTV crew, including, among others, Kurt Loder, had to be evacuated by helicopter. The surrounding site viewers wrecked cars and stalls. A police operation had to stop the riots.

The riots of the festival were later seen as a sign for the violence and misogyny of modern rock music, but especially the Nu Metal. The music magazine Spin blamed for the violence Korn, Eminem and Limp Bizkit. In the issue of January 2000 states:

"Woodstock was therefore the decisive event of the year, because in the overwhelming desire was expressed to establish the rock music of the angry white rapper as the voice of rebellious youth. This was, tragically, at the expense of all, especially at the expense of women, who by chance stood in the way. "
