Dave Matthews Band

The Dave Matthews Band is an American Jamrockband. It was founded by the South Africa -born American singer, guitarist and songwriter David John Matthews in early 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Band History

Matthews formed the band along with drummer Carter Beauford, bassist Stefan Lessard, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, violinist Boyd Tinsley and keyboardist Peter Griesar. However, the latter left the band at the beginning of 1993. Between 1997 and 2008, the keyboard of Butch Taylor was cast as permanent guest. This in turn left the band in 2008 just before tour start. Saxophonist LeRoi Moore died unexpectedly on August 19, 2008 to the consequences of an accident on 30 June 2008.

The band's style is characterized by the rather unorthodox Cast ( acoustic guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, saxophone, violin ) and the resulting sound. With their blend of rock, pop, jazz, folk and funk was quickly procured a good reputation in the local Jamrock music scene. Correspondingly large number of prominent guest musicians who repeatedly during the extended live tours which - according to LeRoi Moore's death now of four - accompany band at individual pieces and the pieces give new interpretations: eg Neil Young, Warren Haynes, Carlos Santana, Bela Fleck, Phish, Ziggy Marley or John Mayer, to name just a few. In the summer 2008 tour were now permanently represented Tim Reynolds on electric guitar and since 2005 Rashawn Ross. In addition, LeRoi Moore was initially replaced by saxophonist Jeff Coffin, a longtime friend of the band Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

As a guest singer at the studio album Before These Crowded Streets (1998 ) can be heard in the songs of Do not Drink the Water and Spoon Alanis Morissette, in the video for Dream Girl from Stand Up (2005) plays Julia Roberts as the female lead and the song What Would You Say from the album Under the Table and Dreaming (1994 ) plays American blues musician John Popper harmonica.

1993 the debut live album Remember Two Things. So far, the band has sold in the U.S. alone over 35 million studio albums ( the countless live albums here are not counted), but the big success in Europe has so far not.

The Dave Matthews Band, "America's biggest band" and constantly in the top 10 list of the "top grossing tours" ( profitable tours and in 2000 they were even the most commercially successful live band), has a good reputation as a live Act and fills in the USA regularly halls and stadiums (2003 even the Great Lawn in Central Park with nearly 120,000 viewers ).

In 2007, the Dave Matthews Band was after nearly nine years back traveling in Europe. In August 2008, died saxophonist LeRoi Moore at the consequences of a quad accident. In the summer of 2009 the band gave numerous concerts in Europe, but none of them in Germany. In February / March 2010 the band toured Europe again. In London, the largest concert ( O2 Millennium Dome) was held on March 6, in Germany, the band played in Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich.

After the announcement, to go after 20 years for the first time not permanently on tour, the band played several concerts in 2011 still under the slogan Dave Matthews Band Caravan.
