LeRoi Moore

LeRoi Holloway Moore ( born September 7, 1961 in Durham, North Carolina; † August 19, 2008 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American saxophonist, known as a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band.

Biography

Moore was born on September 7, 1961 in Durham, the son of Roxie Holloway Moore and Albert P. Moore. He grew up in Virginia, where he attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and tenor saxophone studied. Shortly afterwards, he was a respected jazz musician in Charlottesville and played with artists such as John D' Earth and Dawn Thompson. In one of the regular concerts of John D' earths quintet he met in 1991 to Dave Matthews. To support this in its self- written songs, Moore began tracks with Dave Matthews record.

Moore played bass, baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophone, and flute, bass clarinet and tin whistle. In addition to his performances with the Dave Matthews Band appeared on Moore code magentas album and the album "In November Sunlight" by Soko.

Death

Moore was seriously injured on 30 June 2008 in an accident on his farm. He broke several ribs and suffered a lung tear. On 19 August 2008 the official Dave Matthews Band website, announced that Moore had died of complications of his injury. He was buried on 27 August 2008 in Albemarle County.
