Jeruzalem, Ljutomer

Jeruzalem is a town in northeastern Slovenia. It has 55 inhabitants.

Jeruzalem located 9 km north of the city Ormož in the historical region of Styria ( Lower Styria ). The town was founded in the 13th century by German crusaders who returned from the Holy Land to Europe.

Even then formed the vineyard in the fertile environment the basis of economic existence. The village is today one of the most famous wine growing regions of Slovenia at the Slovenian wine route.

Already Crusaders were in Jeruzalem the "Church of the painful Lady " build (Slovenian Cerkev Žalostne Matere Božje ). The church is now the symbol of the village. It was later rebuilt in baroque style. The altarpiece dates from the late 17th century. It is a copy of a painting that should have brought from Palestine, the Crusaders. The church surrounded a church garden and a park.
