Jerzy Bielecki (Auschwitz survivor)

Jerzy Bielecki ( born March 21, 1921 in Kielce Słaboszów, † October 20, 2011 in Nowy Targ ) was a Polish Auschwitz survivor and author.

Life

Bielecki graduated from his school days in Krakow. After the German occupation of Poland, Bielecki tried to flee to Hungary to get from there to the Polish exile army to France, together with five companions.

Bielecki was established in 1940 to escape while trying to Hungary, was arrested by the Gestapo and deported on 14 June 1940 in the concentration camp at Auschwitz. He was among the first prisoners and received the adhesion number 243 In July 1944, managed to escape from the camp in an SS uniform and a pass, along with a Jewish friend, who he had met in the camp.

After the war he became a teacher in Nowy Targ, where he lived until his death. His book, " Whoever saves one life " took a lot of appreciation and attention. 1985 Bielecki was recognized by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
