Jerzy Nowak

Jerzy Nowak ( born June 20, 1923 in Brzesko, † March 26, 2013 in Warsaw) was a Polish film and theater actor and teacher.

Biography

During the German occupation of Poland Nowak fought together with the Polish partisans. In 1948 he graduated from the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Performing Arts in Krakow. In 1994 he played primarily and continuously the role of Hirsz Singer, considered the historical symbol of the heritage of Polish theater in the art. The role comes in the play before Yes jestem ZYD z Wesela of Roman Brandstaetter, which was performed in October 2011, the 600th time. In the movies he usually took supporting roles as a Jew, often during the Second World War, for example, in Schindler's List (directed by Steven Spielberg ) or as a farmer in three colors: white and as the sugar in the film The Promised Land (directed by Andrzej Wajda ). In 2005 he made a film about death, which allegedly had his own disease model character. His body should be provided to the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University are available according to his will. The film met with great interest in the media.

Jerzy Nowak was married since 1989 to his second wife Maria Andruszkiewicz - Nowak. In the fall of 2009, the Austeria publisher published the biography of Jerzy Nowak, Książka o miłości. It was created in collaboration with his wife, who was awarded in February 2010, the Literature Prize Krakauer book of the month.
