Jerzy Petersburski

Jerzy Petersburski ( born April 20, 1895 in Warsaw, † October 7, 1979 ) was a Polish composer hit.

Life

He studied at the Warsaw Conservatory, then in Vienna. He is best known for his collaboration with various Warsaw theaters and cabarets. In 1922 he founded, together with the violinist Artur gold, the gold Petersburski band, which was also known by numerous recordings.

His biggest international success was in 1928 for the musical revue Warszawa w kwiatach (Warsaw in flowers) composed song Tango Milonga, which the German text by Fritz Löhner- Beda and the English by Jimmy Kennedy Oh, Donna Clara! became a worldwide hit. Another hit was Ta Ostatnia niedziela ( This last Sunday), sung by his favorite singer Mieczysław Fogg. He also composed film soundtracks.

Between 1947 and 1967 he lived in South America (Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela), before he finally returned to Poland. He died in 1979 in Warsaw and was buried in the cemetery Powązki.
